Colour Choir: Py ft. Andi Watson + Silent
3rd – 6th March 2016
Kachette, Shoreditch
“Seeing is a dual phenomenon – an encounter with the world and an encounter with oneself.” – Maurice Merleau–Ponty
Colour Choir is an immersive audio-visual installation from artist & musician Jade Pybus (Py), developed in creative partnership with Nathan Prince of Silent and longtime Radiohead collaborator Andi Watson. Through reconfigurations of light and sound this sensory experience explores the subjectivity of perception and the relationships between voice, colour and space.

During the nighttime component of the installation Py will perform live with each note and contour of her voice triggering light and sound from 13 speaker-light sculptures strategically placed around a railway arch. Sound will be visualised along a 13-point compass of coloured light. Moving through the space, and changing proximity to different parts of the installation will modify guests’ experience, playing on the subjective nature of sensory perception.
During the daytime the installation will be open to the public. Visitors will be able to interact with each speaker station and trigger their own configuration of vocals, creating a choir of colour and sound, retelling Py’s story with their own interpretation.
All music composed, produced and mapped to the space by Py and Throwing Snow. Code and software written by Andreas Müller from Nanika. Produced by Electric Theatre Collective. Made possible by funding from Arts Council England.
